SHERIDAN — Sheridan’s Kayla Woodward was one of four Cowgirl basketball players to receive postseason recognition Monday.
This is the second All Mountain West Conference selection for the sophomore. Woodward was selected to the second team this season after making third team as a freshman. Woodward was second on the team in scoring (15 ppg) and rebounding (6.4 rpg).
She hit double-figures scoring in 12 of 14 conference games, helping the Cowgirls to a No. 3 MWC finish and an impressive 23-6 overall record.
The Cowgirls open postseason play at 9:30 p.m. Thursday when they play Colorado State (11-18) in the first round of the Mountain West Tournament at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
The Cowboys (18-12) face a play-in game tonight at 6 o’clock with Nevada (12-18). Wyoming beat Nevada in both their meetings this year. Senior Leonard Washington was the only Cowboy to garner postseason recognition. He was named third team and all-defensive team after a second team selection last year.
Chandra Sewell made first team and all-defensive team for the Cowgirls. Ashley Sickles and Kaitlyn Mileto were third team.
