SHERIDAN — The Lady Broncs fell 3-1 to a strong Cheyenne East team Friday afternoon in the 4A state soccer semifinals.
“We didn’t play very intelligently on defense,” head coach Tom Racette said. “We needed to play the ball a lot bigger than we did. We played a lot of small balls right to Cheyenne East players and they made us pay.”
He explained that two out of the three Cheyenne East first-half goals were the product of defensive errors.
Maddy McClure scored the Lady Broncs goal in the second half.
Sheridan plays Laramie today at 9 a.m. in the girls consolation final. The Lady Broncs will try for third place after starting out the season as a young team that was a long shot for the state tournament.
“I think it would still be huge to us and this young team,” Racette said. “To make it here was a big step for us, to make it to the semifinal was another big step.
“To have a chance to come away with this young team with a third place trophy is a good opportunity.
“I think the kids will understand in a short period of time how that is important for us this season and for next,” he said.
