SHS at State Track: Day 1

SHERIDAN — It was a slow day for Sheridan with just a few events on the first day of state track.

Michael Rotellini ran into a star-studded field in the 3,200-meter race, finishing fifth after Ricky Faure of Rock Springs ran a 9:24.80 state-record breaking time. Rotellini finished his two mile career with a 9:38.63.

The 200-meter prelims and 4X800 relays were the only other events for Sheridan boys Thursday. Casey Carlton and Nate Kane were 14th and 16th respectively in prequalifying for the 200-meter dash.

For the Lady Broncs, Crystal Richards shined Thursday. Richards finished third overall in the long jump, flying 17-feet even. Dayanera Timberman of Kelly Walsh won the state event with an 18-04.50. Shayla Christensen finished her junior shot put career fifth after a 35-07.50 throw. Alison Geary was ninth, one spot outside placing. Gabby Edeen had the fifth best prelim in the 200-meter dash, 25.84 seconds.
