WEATHER FROM OUR SPONSORS
SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Veterans Council has a number of Memorial Day activities planned.
On May 26 from 1-4 p.m. Girl Scouts and community volunteers will be placing flag holders on the graves of veterans at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Volunteers should be at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. for orientation.
It will be helpful if any family members or friends of deceased veterans would come to the cemetery to help locate the graves.
Activities on May 27 will begin at 6 a.m. with Girl Scouts and community volunteers placing approximately 1,500 flags on veterans’ graves at the cemetery. Please be at the cemetery at 5:45 a.m. for orientation.
Sheridan’s Memorial Day parade will be May 27 starting at 10 a.m. Participants should assemble at 9 a.m. in the Wells Fargo parking lot on the corner of Main Street and Dow Street. The parade will proceed south on Main Street to the Sheridan County Courthouse.
A brief ceremony will be held on the courthouse lawn during which 40-50 wreaths will be placed.
At approximately 11:30 a.m. the ceremonies will continue at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the flag raising, national anthem, and American Legion Post “Everlasting Ceremony” where Sheridan County veterans who have died during the last year will be remembered.
If the weather is bad, all events will take place at the Sheridan Veterans Affairs Medical Center auditorium, building 61.
For more information, or if you’d like to participate in the parade or other ceremonies, contact Jim Craig at 751-2108, Susan Hitchcock at 674-8560 or Dick Moline at 672-5753.
