Broncs nip Central 1-0
SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Broncs soccer team enters the state tournament playing well.
Sheridan was 0-1-1 against Cheyenne Central coming into Saturday’s third-fourth place game at the 4A East Regional tournament in Cheyenne, and left with a 1-0 win that earned them a No. 3 seed at this weekend’s state tournament in Rock Springs.
Junior Colter Carzoli scored in the 44th minute for the game’s only goal.
The Broncs (8-6-4) open the state tournament against Rock Springs (6-10-2) at 11 a.m. Thursday. Sheridan is on the same side of the bracket as 4A East No. 1 seed Gillette, who opens with Natrona Thursday.
Sheridan has lost three games to Gillette by one goal this season, including a 2-1 loss in the semifinals of the regional tourney Friday.
The Broncs were last year’s state runner-up.
Lady Broncs head to state after 2-1 loss to Central
SHERIDAN — The Lady Broncs led Cheyenne Central for the first time this year, but couldn’t hold on, dropping the third-fourth place game 2-1 to the Lady Indians.
Saturday marked the third time this season Sheridan has lost to Cheyenne Central.
Maddy McClure scored for Sheridan in the 30th minute and the Lady Broncs carried a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Central scored twice in the second and established Sheridan as a No. 4 seed at state.
Sheridan won a shootout over Gillette Thursday to qualify for state before falling 4-0 to Laramie Friday night in the regional semis.
The Lady Broncs (6-11-1) begin their 2013 state tournament Thursday afternoon against the No. 1 seed from the 4A West, Green River (15-2).
If they win, they play the winner of a game between Kelly Walsh and Cheyenne East.
