Broncs 3rd in Gillette as they prepare to host conference next week

SHERIDAN — The SHS boys golf team will take a third place finish into their host conference tournament Monday at the Powder Horn.

Playing in a make-up tournament from earlier this season that was snowed-out, the Broncs placed third out of an eight-team field Monday in Gillette.

Kelly Walsh, last year’s state champion, won the tournament with a 311. Gillette was second with a 334 and Sheridan shot a 338.

“Our scores are getting lower, we had a couple players on the boys side stay home due to some AP tests,” head coach Larry Martoglio said. “We’re gradually seeing improvement, and I hope we can continue that up to conference.”

Jack Mavrakis took second with his 74 Monday, behind a 72 from Drew Petrie of Kelly Walsh.

Bailey Bonnett shot an 85 and Kelby Liggett shot an 87 for SHS.

For the girls, Hillary Lindell’s 93 was good enough for ninth as she helped the Lady Broncs place fifth Monday. Gillette shot a 250 for first place, and Sheridan shot a 306.

Katie Beardslee shot a 104 and Madison Farr had a 109 for the Lady Broncs. Gillette’s Hailey Shackleford won the tournament with a 75.

Sheridan’s conference golf tournament will be held May 13-14 at the Powder Horn with tee times starting at 1 p.m. and 10 a.m., respectively.

Spectators are welcome.
