SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Jets began their season with two games in Billings Saturday followed by two home games Sunday against Gillette.
The Jets dropped two games to the Billings Scarletts, 11-1 and 11-2, splitting their home opener with the Gillette Roughriders (W 6-5, L 16-6) Sunday at Thorne-Rider Stadium.
“This early in the season, we are working on getting the kids in shape and giving them an opportunity to play,” head coach Ryan Murner said. “The season has started out slow with the weather and many players are still competing in spring sports. It was a nice for them to get an opportunity to play this weekend.”
Max Lube drove in one run, scoring two more and hitting a double in the Jets 6-5 win in the opener Sunday. James Timberlake pitched five innings for the Jets and allowed three runs on three hits. Lube took the mound and recorded the last six outs, allowing two runs.
In game two, Sheridan used four different pitchers as they gave up seven runs in the first and weren’t able to come back. Zack Soule drove in two runs on a double and scored a run. Lube and Turner Martini had an RBI apiece.
Christian Mayer allowed two runs on one hit while pitching four innings in relief.
“We displayed a lot of good things in our four games and we have a lot of areas of improvement,” Murner added. “When we can get all the players good practice time and repetitions, our players should really improve.”
In Billings, Caleb Hoopes pitched three innings and allowed five runs on four hits in the first loss, while Zach Blaney pitched four innings and gave up seven runs on six hits in game two.
The Jets play in Billings again Saturday.
