SC men tab Nevada forward Williams

SHERIDAN — Sam Williams might have what it takes to fill in on a basketball team that’s losing it’s two leading scorers.

Williams, a 6-foot-7-inch forward is the sixth in the 2013 recruiting class for the Generals. He averaged 24 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 1.8 steals during his senior year at Hug High School in Reno, Nev., ending his time as the Hawks lost in the Nevada state championship game.

“Sam is another tremendous addition to our incoming recruiting class,” head coach Steve Smiley said. “Sam brings a lot of different attributes to our team, including size, athleticism, toughness and the ability to really shoot the ball.”

Demonstrating his scoring potential, last year Williams posted a 45-point career night in a game against Reno High School.

He joins returning Generals wing players Fred Dure and X-Keem Jones, with the hope of replacing departing shooters Ron Mvouika and Victor Bermudez.

“We see Sam as a player that could have an immediate impact on our team next year, and he is a traditional power forward that can play both on the perimeter and inside,” Smiley said.
