SHERIDAN — The Big Horn girls nabbed their first team victory this spring at the Devils Tower golf tournament Tuesday in Hulett.
The Lady Rams shot a one-day 306, 10 strokes ahead of the four-team field.
Head coach Mila Stender was pleased with her team’s result in just their third tournament this year.
“Conditions were cold but dry, and the kids had a great day of golf,” she said.
Taylor Nance shot a 99 to lead Big Horn individually with teammate Kaleigh Anderson’s 100 close behind. Jamie Kitterman shot a 107 and Taylor Cameron carded a 127 for the Lady Rams.
Individually, Nance and Anderson finished fourth and fifth respectively.
On the boys side, Tongue River Eagle Wyatt Main’s 88 was good enough for third place individually. His score helped the Eagles card a team 386, finishing third place Tuesday in a five-team field that was separated by just 11 strokes between the top four squads.
Wyatt Schumacher was ninth with a 91.
“If each player can shave one or two strokes off their game, we should have a great shot at finishing second in the conference, which is what we set as a team goal this season,” TR coach Pete Kilbride said after his team narrowly missed a runner-up placing for the second tournament in a row, this time by two strokes.
Big Horn’s Jack Roberts and Nick McAdoo each shot 90s, finishing fifth and sixth in the individual standings and helping the Rams to a fourth place team finish. The Rams totaled a team 391 on the day.
Moorcroft won the boys tournament with a 378, and Lusk’s Denton Shaw shot by far the best individual score Tuesday, a 72.
Big Horn and Tongue River will both golf in Wright and Lusk this weekend.
