SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Arts Council will welcome pianist Josh Wright to Sheridan on Friday and Saturday.
Wright has performed throughout the United States and Europe. He has recorded six CDs and is known to local audiences as the featured artist for two years in the Sheridan College Young Musical Artists in Residence Series.
His victory in the 2010 American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music gave him an opportunity to play at Carnegie Hall. Also in 2010, he won first place in the Seattle International Piano Competition, and this spring he won first prize in the Rosamond P. Haeberle piano competition, which brought a $5,000 check along with the laureate award.
A feature of his appearance in Sheridan will be the “Piano Puzzler,” in which audience members can win gift certificates from local restaurants by identifying a popular melody hidden in a composition and naming the composer imitated in the composition.
Wright will also present a master class for local piano students and teachers at the Sheridan Junior High School‘s Early Auditorium. The class, which runs from 4-6 p.m. Friday, is open to the public.
Wright’s performance will be Saturday at the WYO Theater at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and military members and $8 for students.
