Back home, Lady Broncs look for wins

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan girls soccer team has to be happy they’re done with drives to Cheyenne and Laramie.

With the season already winding down, the Lady Broncs get one final homestand to try and improve their middle-of-the-pack 4A East standing after they took a step backward with a 5-0 loss last weekend in Laramie.

A quality win over Gillette in their most recent home game stands as the highlight of the Lady Broncs season — one that’s been a learning experience for a young squad.

April 12 at Scott Field, the girls edged the Lady Camels 1-0, a win that gave the Lady Broncs a much-needed shot in the arm after a weekend where they dropped two games to Cheyenne East and Central, not scoring a goal in the two losses.

They get those two rematches this weekend, with Central Friday at 6 p.m., followed by their final home game against East at noon Saturday.

A tough stretch ends after East and Central, clear cut along with Laramie as the top 4A East teams, and the Lady Broncs have good shot at a win Monday against 0-5 Cheyenne South.

The game was originally scheduled for last Saturday but was postponed due to snow. South and Sheridan will meet in Casper for the makeup.

Meanwhile in Cheyenne, the Sheridan boys have a chance to cement themselves in the 4A East No. 2 spot this weekend. The Broncs came on strong, scoring nine combined goals in wins over Cheyenne South and Laramie last weekend. They play Central Friday night, who beat Sheridan 1-0 their first meeting, and then East Saturday, who the Broncs beat 2-1.

Sheridan teams close their regular seasons May 4 with a doubleheader in Gillette.
