Indoor track teams 10th at state

From Staff Reports

SHERIDAN — Sheridan High School Indoor Track teams completed their seasons with 10th place finishes Saturday in Gillette.

The Sheridan girls and boys teams were each behind Kelly Walsh and Campbell County High School’s top performances at state. One Sheridan athlete, Shayla Christensen finished in the top two of her event, good enough for All-State.

“The Sheridan athletes did a great job of giving their best efforts, and many of them had their best marks of the season,” head coach Art Baures said. “The girls had a very good meet, and we had some athletes really step up their performances in order to score points for the team.”

Amanda Hutchinson was sixth in the 1,600 meter run, and Gabby Edeen was sixth in the 200 meter dash and eighth in the 200 meter dash. Taylor Ballek took fourth in pole vault.

“Amanda Hutchinson was a tremendous leader for her team and just ran great in all four of her races,” Baures said. “She had her best times of the year in all four races and placed in each race for her team. She showed the entire team how to compete and go out on top as a senior.

“Gabby Edeen was a great addition to our indoor team and she improved her times in every race this year. She ran like she was a veteran and made the finals and placed in both sprint races at the state meet. Taylor Ballek had a great meet in the pole vault and she vaulted a foot higher than she had previously this year.”

For the boys team, Michael Rotellini was fifth in the 800 meter run and the 1,600 meter run. Christian Mayer was seventh in the 55 meter dash.

“The boys were very competitive and supportive of each other all season and the relays were tremendous at the state meet,” Baures said. “The sprinters and distance runners combined their efforts to lead the team in the scoring and it was a fun way to end the season at the state meet.”

He noted Christian Mayer and Rotellini as top performers in their individual events. As a team, the boys’ 28 points were behind first place Kelly Walsh’s 99 and second place Campbell County’s 72. Campbell County was first and KWHS was second on the girls side.

Sheridan High School spring sports soccer and track began practice Monday.
