Luck of the draw — First lottery ticket to be sold here

SHERIDAN — The first lottery ticket to be sold in Wyoming will be sold to Mary Ogg, 67, of Sheridan on Sunday at noon.

Ogg won the drawing held by the Wyoming Lottery Saturday. She was chosen randomly from among the more than 27,000 entrants in a giveaway the Lottery created to promote its upcoming launch.

In addition to purchasing the first lottery ticket sold in Wyoming, Ogg also won a 2014 Jeep Wrangler and free Mega Millions tickets for a year.

Ogg said Monday she never enters drawings, but thought she’d give this one a chance because you didn’t have to enter a lot of personal information online.

“I did think about it a little before I hit send, though,” Ogg said Monday.

She entered her name in the drawing online Saturday morning before heading to Dayton for much of the day. When she returned and saw the blinking light on her answering machine, Ogg said she thought, “Oh my goodness.”

Ogg had two messages from Wyoming Lottery representatives letting her know she had won.

Ogg will receive the keys to the Jeep on Saturday at an event in Casper, but Ogg joked that the lottery commissioner has already put 1,700 miles on the vehicle traveling around the state.

“On ‘my jeep,’” Ogg laughed.

Ogg will buy the first Wyoming Lottery ticket during a special event Sunday to be held at the Holiday Gas Station on Brundage Lane, the location Ogg chose because she purchases a lot of her fuel there.

A barbecue with live music will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the gas station.
