Candidates for treasurer discuss customer service
Date posted: August 7, 2014
SHERIDAN — The two candidates for Sheridan County treasurer each emphasized a desire for improved customer service in that office during the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce hosted candidate forum Wednesday night.
Incumbent Pete Carroll and challenger Scott Hininger both discussed the need for staff to be cross-trained in order to most effectively serve the community.
Carroll said his staff already has been trained and hardly a week goes by without a compliment from the public about his friendly staff.
Carroll also discussed the need to stay on top of technological advancements that could make the work easier for both staff and customers. He cited examples of past improvements in that area, including the ability of the office to accept credit cards and for customers to pay property taxes online.
Hininger agreed that advancing technology in the office will continue to be a challenge as new options consistently become available.
Carroll has held the office of county treasurer for 12 years and has run unopposed for the same time frame.
Hininger currently works with the Sheridan County Extension Office.
