SHERIDAN — Susan Douglas of the Bighorn National Forest was one of three National Forest employees who received the Regional Forester’s Special Recognition award for their efforts to honor the 75th anniversary of the Blackwater Fire.
The 1937 wildfire caused 15 deaths and is recognized with a firefighter memorial and trail located 38 miles west of Cody.
Kristie Salzmann and Jason Brey of the Shoshone National Forest were the other recipients of the award.
According to a press release, the three were recognized for their work in planning and implementing events around the 75th anniversary of the fire. The recipients developed interpretive materials, conducted a memorial hike and picnic and planned a memorial ceremony.
