SHERIDAN — The Fletcher Construction and Wendy’s Rockies won the Sheridan Ponies Softball League on Monday.
The Rockies defeated the Let’er Buck Carwash and Pepsi Marlins team 23-8 in the championship game at Sixth Street Fields.
The Rockies roster, which included two separate sets of twins, was comprised of girls in grades 5-7 who were playing for the first time in the Ponies League.
The six-inning contest was pitched by one of the sets of twins, Mikayla and Nichole Johnson, who pitched three innings apiece in the win.
Rockies coach Tony Laing credited the girls’ work ethic for their success throughout the season.
“This was an amazingly fun group of girls to coach,” Laing said. “They dedicated themselves to a lot of practice, both with the team and on their own.”
