SHERIDAN — For the next event in a series of outings celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association will host a Lake Elsa backpacking trip this weekend.
Former Alaskan Wilderness Ranger Maria Burke will take experienced backpackers into the Cloud Peak Wilderness to Lake Elsa to set up camp on Friday.
On Saturday the hikers will have the option of fishing, relaxing by the lake or taking a day hike to the Birthday Lakes above Elsa.
Hikers will need to supply their own gear and the trip is approximately 16 miles roundtrip.
