Big Horn girls golf takes conference championship

SHERIDAN — After two hard days of competition, Big Horn’s girls golf team took the conference championship at Evanston on Saturday and took second in the region, finishing with a 626 behind Lusk.

“The girls had an awesome finish,” Big Horn golf coach Mila Stender said.

Kaleigh Anderson finished second in both conference and regionals with a 94 for Big Horn. Anderson’s teammate Jamie Kitterman finished third in the conference and seventh in the region with a 97.

The Big Horn boys finished fourth in the region and third in conference with a 771; Wright won both titles. Jack Roberts and Nick McAdoo for Big Horn both shot an 88, placing 14th in the region and seventh in conference.

Andy Quinn placed 14th in the conference.

Tongue River had a good showing at the tournament as well, with Kylee Knobloch finishing ninth in the region and fifth in the conference. She improved her shot by 11 strokes on day two ending with a 99.

Knobloch’s teammate Grace Carr finished 20th in the region and 14th in the conference with a 123 Friday and 124 on Saturday.

Ian Ostler of Tongue River had a personal best of 105 to finish with a two-day 218.

“It was a great way for Ian to end his first season of golf,” Tongue River coach Pete Kilbride said. “Ian was second high man on the team after just picking up golf eight weeks ago. With no seniors on our squad, we look forward to next year and good things to come.

The boys finished fourth in the conference and sixth place in the region with a two-day total of 879.
