Dayton opens bids for overlay project

DAYTON — Dayton Town Council opened bids for an overlay paving project at its meeting Monday night. It will award the project in a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Town Hall.

One bid for the South Fork Avenue overlay project was received from ICM for $130,054, Mayor Bob Wood said. The bid was presented to the town’s engineer, received approval and will be accepted Wednesday. ICM will then have 60 days to start the project.

“Our hopes are that they will start immediately and get it done in the spring before all the big activities come up,” Wood said. “We’ve been very pleased with ICM in the past. We have a good relationship with them, and they’ve done a great job in the past.”

The council also approved the first reading of Ordinance #386.

The ordinance will amend the water and sewer ordinance to eliminate penalty fees for late payments on water and sewer bills. Wood said he didn’t think the town had ever collected the late fee and now has a system where water is shut off after a given period if the payment is late. The person must then pay the reconnection fee to re-establish water service.

The change was made at the request of the town’s auditor who said the town either needed to collect the fee or eliminate it. The ordinance will require two more readings to pass.

In other business, Dayton Town Council reviewed the preliminary budget for fiscal year 2014-2015 and voted to have the budget prepared as currently written for first reading on May 21. The final two readings of the budget will be held in June.
