SHERIDAN — Nolan McCafferty, Andrew Ratty and Colten Williams were the only players to get a hit for the Jets in the team’s 12-0 loss to the Gillette Rustlers on Sunday.
In the second game of their doubleheader the Jets came back stronger, but not enough to hold back the Rustlers. The Jets lost 5-2.
Noah Gustafson and Andrew Boint earned the two runs for the Jets, and McCafferty had an RBI single.
“The games didn’t go in our favor on Sunday,” Jets coach Ryan Murner said. “But it was an important game to get the season started. Getting game experience for all of our players is critical early in the season. We made quite a few mistakes but we also had opportunities. If we continue to work hard and learn from our mistakes the guys will see more success.”
The Troopers also played Sunday, facing the Emmanuel Halos in Billings. The team lost 7-2 and 6-2 in their doubleheader.
“We have a young team and they made mistakes that you see from young players,” head coach Ben Phillips said. “They played great and had hits but they couldn’t get a couple of back-to-back hits to score runs.”
In the first game, Blake Godwin and Kris Clark had the runs for the Troopers and in the second game Coy Steele and Godwin crossed the plate for runs.
The Troopers will host a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. at Thorne-Rider Stadium.
The Jets will host a doubleheader Saturday against Rapid City Post 22, starting at 1 p.m. at Thorne-Rider Stadium before heading to Billings on Sunday to play against the Billings Angels and Missoula Osprey.
