SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Lady Broncs took down the No. 1-ranked team Saturday, toppling the Cheyenne East Thunderbirds with a win 1-0.
SHS coach Mallery Marshall said the win should move the Lady Broncs into the No.1 seat, tying with Laramie for the conference.
“The girls knew this would be a physical match and decided to come play at their level of physicality,” Marshall said.
The Lady Broncs kept East on their toes throughout the first part of the game, but neither team managed a goal before halftime.
Midway into the second half, though, Robbi Ryan pulled off a goal, putting the Lady Broncs ahead 1-0.
“Our staff and players have been saying all season that we can play with anyone and beat anyone,” Marshall said. “Saturday they proved that!”
The SHS coach said the team’s keeper kept the Lady Broncs in the game.
“Sarah LeTempt had a tremendous game,” Marshall said. “She made a lot of smart decisions putting herself in good positions to make quality saves.”
The Sheridan Lady Broncs will host their last game before regionals on Friday at Homer Scott Field at 6 p.m. Friday is senior night for both the Broncs and Lady Broncs. The Lady Broncs’ seniors will be recognized during halftime of the boys game, which is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
