SHERIDAN — Tate Hilgenkamp has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D.
Hilgenkamp had a solid two-year career for the Sheridan College Generals. Hilgenkamp helped lead the Generals on a nine-game winning streak.
“I didn’t get a lot of playing time initially until the Western game,” Hilgenkamp said. “Coach kind of threw five guys in at the game and the next game I got the starting spot and played pretty well from there for the next nine games.”
Generals coach Steve Smiley said Hilgenkamp came into Sheridan two years ago as a relatively unheralded prep player looking for an opportunity to be a part of a team and earn his way into the rotation.
“We’re really excited about this signing,” Smiley said. “He worked as hard as any player we’ve had in the past six years and was always a team-first guy.”
Smiley said the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, of which BHSU is a part, is one of the best Division II leagues in the country.
