Three athletes take top finishes for SHS rodeo team

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School rodeo team had three individuals place first Saturday and Sunday at the rodeo held in Big Piney.

Jeff Zdziarski, Makenna Balkenbush and Brandt Ross each led the competitors in their respective events.

Zdziarski scored a 66 on Saturday for bareback riding and Sunday placed first with a score of 69. Ross and his team roping partner Amelia Thrush of Gillette took first Saturday with a time of 7.350 seconds.

Balkenbush placed first in pole bending at 20.411 seconds on Sunday.

Several other Sheridan County athletes also placed in Big Piney.

• Arvada’s Linzee Adamson placed third in barrel racing Saturday at 17.066 seconds and Sunday placed fourth with a time of 16.919 seconds. Adamson also placed fifth with a 21.570 second time in pole bending.

• Tiare Ilgen placed third in goat tying on Saturday with a 8.660 second time.

• Whitney Simmons placed fifth in goat tying with a time of 9 seconds.

• Shyanna Cahoy of Sheridan placed fourth in pole bending on Saturday with a 21.531 time.

• Bryson Miranda placed fifth in the tie-down event with a 13.420-second time.

The team will compete at Newcastle this weekend.
