SHERIDAN — Tongue River High School and Big Horn High School boys and girls golf teams took a trip to Sundance yesterday as the Bulldogs hosted 18 holes.
The boys tournament consisted of teams from Wright, Moorcroft, two teams from Sundance/Hulett, Big Horn, Tongue River and Midwest.
The Rams took home a third-place finish with an overall team score of 412.
The team hit the road short-handed on Friday as three players were not allowed to travel, but head coach Mila Stender said a few younger kids stepped up and played a great round of golf.
Two of them, Nick McAdoo and Jack Roberts, had top 10 finishes.
The Eagles finished in fourth place as a team with a final score of 424.
Dylan Patterson rounded out the top 10 shooting 96 to secure the 10th place finish.
“Over half the kids on the entire field were in their first golf tournament,” said head coach Pete Kilbride. “It was a great experience, the weather was great and a lot of kids got to get their feet wet.”
On the grass for the girls, Lusk, Wright, Moorcroft, Big Horn, Sundance/Hulett, Upton and Tongue River teed off.
Like the boys, the Lady Rams team finished third overall with a team score of 347 as Kaleigh Anderson finished in the top 10.
“I was really happy with the way the girls played,” said Stender. “They’re realizing it’s a lot more work than they thought to finish 18 holes and carry the bag and such, but they came in and did a great job with what was their first tournament for many of them.”
The Lady Eagles finished sixth as a team with a total score of 384.
Kylee Knobloch took fourth place after she shot a 99. After just starting to golf in the fall, this is the first time she has broken 100.
The four teams will head out together again tomorrow.
“We’re going to get back late tonight and turn around and do it all again early tomorrow morning at the Moorcroft invite,” said Kilbride.
Today’s tournament will be held at the Keyhole Golf and Country Club in Pine Haven.
