SC Generals rodeo team chases second place to qualify for CNFR

SHERIDAN — Three of the six qualifying rides in bronc riding in Fort Collins, Colo., this weekend were earned by the Sheridan College rodeo team.
The men’s team is currently tied for third with 160 points in the region. They are chasing second place to qualify for the College National Final Rodeo as a team.
The women’s team is sitting fifth in the region with 150 points.
Sheridan College coach Marc Gilkerson said his bronc riders performed well. Tayte Clark rode his long-round horse for 60 points and placed fourth. In the short round he placed second with a score of 74 points and ended up third in the average earning a total of 120 points.
Kash Deal scored a 57 in the long round but marked out in the short round ending up fifth in the average.
Sutton Sandquist earned a score of 52 points in the long round but got bucked off in the short round.
Logan Schaper qualified for the short round in tie-down roping with a time of 12.4 seconds. He broke the barrier in the short round placing seventh in the average.
Jayne Lauweryssen ran 6.6 seconds in goat tying in the long round. Unfortunately in the short round she received a no time because her goat got up, earning 50 points.
For breakaway roping Lauweryssen placed eighth in the long round with a time of 3.4 seconds and placed second in the short round with a time of 4.2 seconds, ending up third in the average earning 90 points.
“Lauweryssen had an awesome long-round run in goat tying and in breakaway,” Gilkerson said.
“The barrel racing was very tough this weekend and our girls were all in the hunt but didn’t qualify for the short round,” Gilkerson said. “Allie Novotny, Cassidy Mutchler, Annie Novotny, Shelby Newman and Lexy Williams all had great runs under 16 seconds.”
The Generals head to Casper April 25-27.
“Taygen Schuelke will be back from Ram National Circuit Finals Rodeo and will compete with us there,” Gilkerson said. “We are looking forward to him competing in Casper.”
At the RNCFR Schuelke tied for third in the first round with Bobby Welsh, Mike Adams and Cody Campbell with 83 points placing sixth in the average.
