SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Lady Broncs lost a battle on their home field against Cheyenne East 0-2 Friday night.
There were many attempts from the Lady Broncs to hit the back of the net, but the team couldn’t get it past goal keeper Ashton Brodahl of East.
“East is the best team in the state,” head coach Mallery Marshall said.
Marshall added that her team should be proud of Friday’s performance.
“We have all the puzzle pieces,” Marshall said. “We just need to bring all the pieces together in one game. They easily could have walked away with a win today. It shows that the Broncs can play with anyone in the state, when we bring all the pieces to the same game.”
In the first 30 minutes, Robbi Ryan was one-on-one taking the ball down the field, but Brodahl kicked the ball away and the two girls collided.
Ryan was able to get back up to get the ball when fullback Kayla Evans kicked the ball away, leaving zeros on the scoreboard as the teams entered the halftime break.
“We have such an incredible defense,” Marshall said. “We lost so many starting defenders going into this season that we weren’t sure what it was going to look like.
The have just come out and rocked it, it’s a testament to how hard they have worked in practice to really get it down and get the system.”
In the second half, the Broncs played both ends of the field. Thunderbirds Micayla Ross got a yellow card for throwing Ryan down.
With 28 minutes left Makenzie Drake passed to Morgan Burke, who scored the first goal for Cheyenne East. With eight minutes left, Sarah Erickson kicked the ball from the 30-yard mark for a goal making the final score Broncs 0, Thunderbirds 2.
