John Evanoff, 87, of Sheridan, Wyoming passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Sheridan Memorial Hospital after suffering a stroke. He had been a resident of Sheridan for the past one year and a former long time resident of Rock Springs, Wyoming. John was born on October 14, 1925 in Winton, Wyoming, the son of the late George and Mary Godeff Evanoff. Mr. Evanoff graduated from Reliance High School. He received a degree in Dental Technology from Idaho State, and a Master Electrical License from Denver Trades International. He married Beverly Ann Dodds in Rock Springs on May 26, 1946. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2005. Mr. Evanoff was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He owned and operated the Rock Springs Dental Laboratory for over thirty years and retired in 1976. From 1976 to 1981 John served the City of Rock Springs as the city electrical inspector. Then, beginning in 2000, John served for ten years as a police commissioner for the City of Rock Springs. His most recent accomplishment was the securing of land and funding for the building of the Young At Heart Senior Citizen Center. John had served as a board member for 20 years as well as the chairmen of the building committee for 15 years. He started with a vision for the future of the senior center and worked diligently for many years to see this project to completion. John was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community, International Association of Electrical Inspectors, Wyoming Conference of Building Officials, State Dental Association, Exchange Club, B.P.O. Elks Club, and J.C’s. His interests included hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and spending time with his family. Survivors include two daughters Susan Steele and husband Frank of Salt Lake City, Utah and Kathy Reynolds and husband Gary of Dayton, Wyoming; three grandchildren Michelle Jensen and Jennifer Jensen both of San Diego, California and John Vehar and wife Meredith of Salt Lake City, Utah; two great grandchildren Cohen Vehar and Theia Vehar; nephew Greg Evanoff and two nieces Nancy Evanoff and Ann Evanoff. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother George Evanoff. Following cremation, there will be a private family service in Dayton, Wyoming.
