State champs! Wine fest success

Congratulations!

The Tongue River Lady Eagles have won their second straight state basketball championship, winners in overtime Saturday in Casper over Kemmerer.

The Sheridan Press will publish a special section in this coming Saturday’s editions to commemorate this championship season and title run.

Tip of the Glass!

The 15th annual Wild West Wine Fest was a bona fide hit. Some 400-plus attended, and there were 75 on the waiting list to get in. For good reason.

• 22 wine, beer, spirits vendors including Koltiska Original Liqueur and Wyoming Whiskey;

• Delicious, freshly-cooked food by Wyoming Culinary School students from Sheridan College, served hot and on the spot. A diverse menu as well.

• Live music. Two bands: the Bill Heide Band upstairs; the Let ‘Er Buck Band downstairs.

It was inside Warehouse 201. John Harrison and his crew hosted the event. The decorations — Chad Franklin, Stacie Coe, Bonnie Franklin, Donna Jo Swanson — complemented the festive affair.

The DSA makes our downtown sing, what with its involvement with Third Thursday Street Festivals, the Christmas Stroll, Farmers Markets and other events. It’s an advocate to keep this historic part of Sheridan alive and thriving.

Sheridan Press tidings……..

Editor Kristen Czaban has been wearing two hats. First, the considerable responsibilities of being managing editor of the Press — news assignments, organization of coverage, organizing content for special sections, the management of nine persons, plus many more duties. And for the past month, sports editor. She was in Casper over the weekend covering the state 2A championship game and taking the photos you saw in yesterday’s paper of the Tongue River Lady Eagles. More of these photos will appear in the commemorative special section coming later this week in the Press.

The cavalry arrived today.

Tanya Hamner of Lyman began her duties as sports editor. She is a graduate of Northwest College in Powell and a graduate of the University of Wyoming, Class of 2010. She is the first sports editor in the Press’ history of her gender.

Welcome, Tanya.

Though spring is officially nine days off, the annual Big Horn Homebuilders Association will have its annual expo which means: spring is coming. Soon. It’s always a big event.

The Press will publish a special section Thursday.

The festive and useful event will open at 5 p.m. Friday at the Holiday Inn Conference Center and will run for three days. Stop by the Press’ booth and say hello. (Or when we’re not there — Sunday — stop by and buy cookies from our local Girl Scouts.)
