SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School Lady Broncs celebrated Senior Night with an easy 69-31 win over the Cheyenne South Lady Bisons.
The Lady Broncs’ three seniors, Maddy McClure, Molly Ligocki and Alison Geary were highlighted before the game via special introduction and started the lineup for Friday night’s game.
It took a few minutes for Sheridan to warm up, and halfway into the first quarter, the Lady Bisons had gained a slight point advantage after forcing two turnovers. That small lead was quickly upset when the Lady Broncs started hitting their baskets and were helped along by 3-point scores from Ligocki and Robbi Ryan.
The first eight minutes closed with the Lady Broncs at 19, the Lady Bisons at 11.
“I feel like they came out and were a little slow on the get go, but they did a great job and pulled it together,” Lady Broncs coach Jessica Pickett said.
During the second quarter, Cheyenne South pushed hard to regain lost ground, but the gap between the teams’ scores only grew. Jennae Fieldgrove took a spill on the court that left her a little shaken, but she quickly regained her composure to land a 3-pointer less than 30 seconds later.
In the third quarter, Geary made three baskets and Taylor Townsend made a jump shot and four free throws. Going into the fourth quarter, the Lady Broncs had established a 36-point lead.
The fourth quarter of the game saw the Lady Broncs slow their gain to only 10 additional points for a final score of 69-31.
“You’ve got to call off the dogs a little bit sometimes,” Pickett said. “It’s hard when you’re having them work on other things and play a little different game than what they’d like to, but that’s important as well.”
Pickett mentioned that Ligocki had an especially great game and Geary worked hard for the team.
She said she was proud of her seniors and indicated she was happy with the way their night turned out.
“They did great,” Pickett said. “There’s always some emotion that comes with Senior Night.”
The night’s top scorer was Taylor Townsend with 18.
Geary followed with 13, Robbi Ryan had 11 and Ligocki had 8.
The three seniors were also honored after the game at a reception in the SHS cafeteria.
