The post-mortems from a thoroughly cooked goose (Denver’s Broncos) continue to come in. Some post-Super Bowl notes.

• A 30-second Super Bowl commercial cost $4 million this year. The 30-second ads in the first Super Bowl, in 1967, were $37,500, adjusted in today’s dollars to $254,000.

• “Late Show” host David Letterman said the Broncos’ “black box” had been found and they were investigating to see what happened in the crash.

• Stand-up comic Ron White: “I believe that a bad Super Bowl halftime show is still better than a professional soccer game.”

• At MetLife Stadium, concession vendors were selling hot chocolate for $20 per cup. One journalist noted that hot chocolate is more of a beverage linked to humanity — keeping kids and parents warm while they sit and watch their kids and loved ones in cold venues and bleachers. That hot chocolate should never be sold for more than $2 per cup, anywhere, and should be given away, if possible.

• 43-8. The pundits have run out adjectives to describe Denver’s beat-down. One Canadian journalist wrote it was like watching men beat seal pups with sticks.

• Seattle now has its first Super Bowl trophy and Vegas has put them a 9-2 favorite to win again next year. Four teams have never played in the Super Bowl: Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars.

I see by the paper………

According to a driver survey Insurance.com, people have their favorite music for a road trip. Those top 10 songs are: 1. “Don’t Stop Believin’ from Journey; 2. “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen; 3. “You Shook Me All Night Long,” by AC/DC. 4. “Any Way You Want It,” by Journey; 5. “Life Is a Highway,” by Tom Cochrane. 6. “Dancing Queen,” by ABBA. 7. “American Girl,” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers; 8. “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” by Michael Jackson; 9. “Born to Run,” by Bruce Springsteen; 10. “Fortunate Son,” by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

(Hmmmm. No “Sing, Sing, Sing” by Benny Goodman?)

Quotable

“CBS has announced that the next season of ‘Survivor’ will have contestants divided into groups based on how strong, how smart and how pretty they are.

“It’ll take place at this exotic location known as ‘high school.’”

—Jimmy Fallon, late night funny guy, soon to be The Tonight Show host.
