Lady Broncs knock off No. 1 Natrona

SHERIDAN — Jumping out to a 34-16 halftime lead, the No. 2 Lady Broncs held on to knock off the No. 1 Natrona Fillies 55-53 Saturday in Sheridan.

Despite early foul trouble from Sheridan sophomore starting point guard Robbi Ryan, the Lady Broncs withstood the Fillies’ comeback attempt, never surrendering their lead. Taylor Townsend sparked Sheridan with 16 points while Ryan added nine. The Lady Broncs 22-5 run in the second quarter was enough to give them their 11th win of the year.

The Lady Broncs held Natrona (8-4) star player Kaylee Johnson to 11 points, while Gabby Johnson scored 21, with both battling foul trouble throughout the contest. Sheridan’s only loss this year came in Casper before Christmas to the Fillies.

Sheridan (11-1) travels to Laramie and Cheyenne South, starting defense of their 4A East title from last year, next weekend.

Meanwhile, the Broncs used 28 points from Reed Ritterbusch and 11 from Dylan Daniels to earn the two-game season sweep of the Mustangs with a 54-38 win Saturday in Casper.

Sheridan (10-2) hosts Laramie Friday then Cheyenne South Saturday to begin 4A East Conference play, off to a far better start to the season than last year, when they failed to reach the 4A state tournament.

Look for more in Monday’s paper.
