SHERIDAN — Seven Broncs reached finals matches Saturday at the Shane Shatto Memorial Tournament in Douglas, with the Broncs finishing in a comfortable second place.
Cody Delk, Tory Music and Dane Chambers each won their respective weight classes, with Tucker Goss and Hayden Hastings finishing second. Braxton Cooper was third.
Delk topped Merritt Crabtree of Newcastle-Upton in a 5-2 decision to win the 182-pound bracket. Sheridan senior Timmy Cowan was fifth in the division, winning 17-7 over Douglas’ Alex Locke.
Music won a 6-2 decision over Tanner Kickland of Chadron at 220-pounds, improving his record to 16-3 on the season. And Chambers, a senior, defeated Micah Burke of Cheyenne South 2-1.
Only East, with four, had more first-placers Saturday, with Steven Lanhert’s 7-5 win over Goss at 120 and Brody Cress’ pin of Hastings at 132 providing the points needed for a team title.— East had 197 points to Sheridan’s 160. Douglas was third with 147. While Sheridan put five wrestlers in title matches, East won four of four, adding champs at 126, Isaac Garcia, and 195, Tevis Bartlett.
As East won the tournament for the second year in a row, the Broncs runner-up finish out of the 25-team field was a massive improvement from a year ago when they were sixth.
Next up, Sheridan competes in Phillip, S.D. Friday and Saturday.
