Fight at Rails bar lands man in hospital

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Police responded to the Rails bar at approximately 1 a.m. Thursday when an altercation between two males resulted in one person receiving a laceration that required medical treatment. Sheridan Police Department  Sgt. Travis Koltiska said investigators have identified a person of interest to be interviewed, though he has not yet been found for questioning.

Koltiska said so far, police know the two men started arguing in the bar area, and the dispute migrated to the outside of the the building. During an altercation, one subject received a laceration to the neck that required medical treatment. He was transported to Sheridan Memorial Hospital.

Koltiska said man with the laceration has also not yet been interviewed due to the medical treatment he’s undergoing.

Koltiska said no witnesses identified a weapon used by either party during the fight.

“All we know is there was an injury sustained during the altercation. The means or method is unknown at this time,” Koltiska said, emphasizing that until interviewers talk to the other person involved in the fight and hear his side of the story, they won’t know whether charges will be filed, if any.

Koltiska also described the early morning incident as an isolated occurrence.

“We know there’s no risk to other members of the community,” he said. “This is an incident between two people who had previous disagreements.”

The Sheridan Press will post updates as more information becomes available.

Editor’s note: this story was updated at 11:27 p.m. Dec. 20 to include details about the nature of the injury and clarify the medical status of the man involved.
