Sheridan closes calendar year at Flaming Gorge Classic

SHERIDAN — Sheridan basketball teams will look to continue fast starts to the season before taking their long winter break.

Sheridan (4-0) has made its first four games look relatively easy, including a 59-53 win in Billings Skyview two weeks ago.

They get Vernal, Utah, today, Rock Springs (2-4) Friday and then Union out of Roosevelt, Utah, on Saturday.

For the Lady Broncs (3-1), their lone loss to Natrona serves them as a good early season learning experience, with the Lady Mustangs the favorite in 4A girls basketball this year. The girls were scheduled to play Star Valley (0-2) this afternoon before taking on Rock Springs (2-4) tomorrow and then Union Saturday.

Sheridan is led by senior Reed Ritterbusch, who had a big scoring weekend in home wins over Natrona and Riverton last week. His 18.5 ppg. trails only 2012 Gillette Gatorade Player of the Year Cody Kelly’s 24.8.

As a team, the Broncs score 67.3 points per game behind only Gillette (3-1) at 76.8.

The Broncs are giving up 45 points per game, so far holding opponents below head coach Gale Smith’s team defensive goal of allowing 48 points per contest.

Taylor Townsend (11.3 ppg), Robbi Ryan (11 ppg), Emily Julian (9.3 ppg) and Maddy McClure (8.3 ppg) provide balanced scoring for the Lady Broncs. Teams take a 19-day break after this weekend’s three games, not playing again until Jan. 9, when they’ll head for a tournament in Riverton. Teams return home the weekend of Jan. 17-18, with games against Billings Skyview and Natrona.
