SHS wrestling: Cooper, Music 2nd at Rapid City Invite

SHERIDAN — Braxton Cooper and Tory Music placed second at the tough Rapid City Invite over the weekend.

Cooper lost a 7-4 decision to Dillon Spaulding of Bismark, N.D., in the 106-pound championship. Music met Zach Thompson of Powell in the title match, falling in a 9-4 decision. Cooper won four matches on the weekend, with two pins, one technical fall and a decision.

Music won four as well, with a major decision, a technical fall and two pins.

As a team, Sheridan was 13th out of the 33 teams entered with the two second-place finishers and one eighth-place finisher in Dominic Miller at 113 pounds. Miller won three matches in the consolation bracket Saturday.

Bismark won the tournament with four first-place winners. Out of the 10 that were there, Wyoming schools to finish ahead of Sheridan were Worland (11th) and Powell (7th).

Varsity wrestlers are in Worland this weekend for a two-day tournament to close out the calendar year. Junior varsity wrestlers compete in the two-day Huntley Project Invite.

The team resumes competition after Christmas at home, first in a dual with Riverton Friday, Jan. 3, followed by duals with the three Billings schools Saturday, Jan. 4.
