SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Hawks high school hockey team earned their first two wins of the 2013-14 season at home this weekend, defeating the Rock Springs Miners 7-3 Saturday afternoon and 11-3 Sunday morning.
Making it an easy numbers game, the Hawks took far more shots on net than the Miners in both games, 43 to 29 Saturday and 57 to 29 Sunday.
Multiple players earned two points Saturday including Barak Broad, Logan Churchill, Jess Edens, Logan Garstad and Thomas Moore.
In Sunday’s win, seven different players scored goals with Logan Garstad leading in points with two goals and three assists. Lane Barten registered a hat trick.
“This was a great way for us to start the season,” head coach Zane Garstad said, “especially in front of our hometown fans.
“We will use these wins to build our confidence as we face a tough opponent in Gillette next weekend.”
The Hawks face off against the Gillette Wild “A” Saturday at 7:45 p.m. and again Sunday morning at 8 a.m.
Both games are in Gillette.
