SC teams break for Christmas after losses in Gillette

SHERIDAN — Sheridan College basketball teams closed out 2013 with losses Saturday night at Gillette.

In the first contest, the Lady Generals fell behind early and lost 79-49 to the Lady Pronghorns. Madison Forney was the only Lady General to score in double figures with 15 points. She had 10 rebounds.

Head coach Frank McCarthy said that while the last few weeks were tough, they are keeping their heads up.

“I give a lot of credit to Gillette, they really played well. We will be
OK, this was really a tough two-game road trip,” he said.

Last year, the Lady Generals hosted Gillette before Christmas, winning by 30 points. This year they’re 0-2 to start North Sub-Region IX play, defending their regular season conference title.

“We are disappointed we but not discouraged,” McCarthy said. “We will be ready to play them here next month.”

He said that the break will be good for a freshman-laden team that will get to go home and see their families.

Sheridan resumes play Jan. 2 against Malmstrom Air Force Base in Sheridan.

Pronghorns 113, Generals 88

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College Generals fast start to the 2013-14 season ended with a hiccup in Gillette after a 113-88 loss Saturday night.

Sheridan (12-3, 1-1) trailed 46-37 at halftime, and a big run by Gillette put the game away, according to head coach Steve Smiley.

Preston Wells scored 16 points, Josh Adeyeye scored 14, Fred Dure added 13 and Iakeem Alston scored. 10. Adeyeye had 10 boards.

The Pronghorns shot 51 percent from the field, including 8-21 from behind the arc. Sheridan hit five of 27 from 3.
