SCSD#2 votes to end its paritipation in SEEDA
Date posted: December 3, 2013
The Sheridan County School District 2 Board of Trustees voted last night at their regular monthly meeting to discontinue its participation in the Sheridan Economic and Educational Development Authority (SEEDA).
SEEDA is an organization consisting of representatives from several area organizations including the City of Sheridan, Sheridan College, Sheridan County, Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce, Forward Sheridan and others, which works to support existing businesses and attract new businesses to the Sheridan area.
Scott Hininger made a motion for the board to end participation on the SEEDA joint powers board and the motion passed unanimously with no discussion.
In a memo to the board dated Nov. 19, SCSD 2 Superintendent Craig Dougherty wrote, “The Board of Trustees has, for some time now, discussed whether continued participation in the SEEDA Joint Powers Board is consistent with the mission and vision of Sheridan County School District Number Two.”
Although the board will now not have a formal presence on the SEEDA board, the district will maintain a supportive role.
“In discussions with the Mayor and the President of Sheridan College, I have made it abundantly clear that the school district will continue to play an active role in community partnership efforts, regardless of what decision is made about continued involvement with SEEDA,” said Dougherty.
In other business, the board accepted a $750 donation to the Sheridan High School Cross Country Club from WYO Timing from the proceeds of the Spur Run.
The board also received a Standard of Excellence award from the Wyoming School Board Association for its commitment to continuing board training and participation.
Also, the board elected officers for the upcoming year. Ann Perkins will remain as vice-chair, Marva Craft will remain as clerk, Wayne Schatz will remain as treasurer and Richard Bridger will take over chairmanship of the board from Scott Hininger who has served in that position for the past year.
