SHERIDAN — The Big Horn Rams are headed to Laramie.
After a hard-fought 28-19 win last night in Lovell, the Rams will play Mountain View Friday at noon at War Memorial Stadium.
“It wasn’t pretty, but we made enough plays to win,” head coach Michael McGuire said. “Lovell had a great gameplan, but we got some big plays and forced some turnovers. We got stops when we needed to.”
Big Horn trailed 6-0 but scored 21 unanswered points until Lovell made a late push. With the score 21-19 in the fourth quarter, Colter Carzoli’s second rushing touchdown of the night put the game away.
Mason Lube and Carzoli each had an interception and Corey Sturza recovered a fumble on a punt return, while the Rams turned the ball over only once. Connor McCafferty threw a touchdown pass to each Christian Mayer and Seth Kite.
“I’m proud of them,” McGuire said. “We’re happy to get out of here with a win tonight, but our goal wasn’t to make it to the state championship game, it’s to win a state championship. We have to keep our eye on the prize.”
Mountain View defeated Thermopolis Friday to earn their shot at the title.
Big Horn has not played Mt. View yet this season. The Rams last played for a state title in 2010, when they fell 13-9 to Thermopolis.
