Turkey Trot

From left, Travis Zeilstra, cofounder and head brewer of The Black Tooth Brewing Company, Sales and Marketing Director Jesse Woods and Monte Buckmaster, owner of The Mint Bar, collected canned food for charity during Saturday evening’s Turkey Trot pub crawl. The Turkey Trot offered free drinks at the brewery, The Mint Bar and The Pony Grill and Bar in exchange for canned food donations.

The event drew approximately 120 people and collected more than 350 cans of food. Additionally, five Thanksgiving-themed sweaters were auctioned off at the end of the event, raising $565.

All funds and food will be given to The Food Group, a local nonprofit that sends children home from school on Friday with food for the weekend.

“ Literally hundreds of children leave school every weekend to go home to an empty fridge,” Woods said. “Without proper nutrition these children will struggle in class and it undoubtedly can affect their full potential in the years to come.”
