Parents must get involved

As a Sheridan County School District 1/Tongue River parent, I would like to offer a letter of support to teachers and staff within our district.
Thank you for your time and efforts in teaching and listening to our students. The children in our community spend the largest part of their weekdays with you in school and we appreciate the work and the connections you make with our kids.
Our school system is in a state of flux. Change is inevitable.
Due to a lack of transparency or decisions not fully communicated, it is difficult to determine if these changes are for the good and misunderstood or if decisions are misguided or simply wrong for our schools.
Valuable teachers are retiring early, others are considering continuing their careers elsewhere. Please know we have appreciated your time and energy invested in our student’s futures.
As parents and tax payers, we want to ensure that good decisions are being made for our kids and with our tax dollars. I would encouraged other SCSD1 parents to attend school board meetings.
These meeting are marginally attended — usually by one to three parents showing up at board meetings, we can neither support the board in making good decisions, nor can we influence the board about our concerns. The next board meeting is Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Ranchester.
Check the SCSD1 website for additional details.
