SHERIDAN — Friday marks the kickoff of a month of men’s health awareness in Sheridan. Mustaches, both real and prosthetic, will be the official indicator of the cause.
For the second year, health organizations in Sheridan have put together a month of celebratory events focused on enhancing men’s awareness, wellness and preventative care.
“The mustache is going to be like what the pink ribbon is for breast cancer awareness,” Sheridan Health Center Executive Director Cathi Kindt said.
The kickoff event for Men’s Health Awareness Month, also known as “Movember,” is Friday night at 5:30 in the conference rooms next to the cafeteria at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Men will be encouraged to arrive clean shaven to commence a month-long mustache growing contest. Women will be issued fake mustaches to wear on their upper lips in solidarity.
Nov. 4, the Sheridan City Council will issue a proclamation commemorating the month.
There is a free men’s health webinar hosted by Wyoming Cancer Resource Services featuring Dr. Joe Grandpre Nov. 13 at noon. The call-in number is 1-877-278-8686 and the passcode is 180195.
The Mustache Gala Party, where “Mr. Movember” will be named, will be Nov. 22 at the Black Tooth Brewing Company.
