Record broken for swimmers; 2nd place at 4A North conference

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School girl’s swim team gave it their all at the 4A North Girls Conference Championship in Casper Friday and took second place as a team with a score of 286.

“It was a great meet for SHS girls,” coach Brent Moore said.

The first day of the championships produced three individual champions and a record-breaking swim for the Lady Broncs.

Payton Brilz took first in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:19.11.

Emily Spiegelberg placed first with a time of 1:10.87 in the 100 meter backstroke.

Gretchen Dougherty was an individual champion in the 100 meter butterfly with a time of 1:12.82. Mackenzie Dougherty placed second right behind her at 1:13.89.

Gretchen Dougherty also broke the Sheridan High School record, held since 1986, in the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:20.06, which was just shy of the event’s first place time of 1:18.88 by a Campbell County swimmer.

Whitney Migrants took fourth with a score of 309.90 in the girls 1 meter diving event.

“Our girls performed very well, and our qualifiers are not even rested yet,” Moore said.

“We should really see some great swim in two weeks at the state meet. We’ll be working hard to get even better before then.”
