WEATHER FROM OUR SPONSORS
Well, schucks. Months of planning, speakers lined up, goodie bags ordered and catering planned.
I kept looking out the window last night at the rain, telling myself it would be OK. No snow had stuck yet and I was sure things would work out.
Yet the best laid plans are always subject to Wyoming weather, which came crashing in late last night to disrupt the FAB Women’s Conference.
While the conference is on hold, we’re hoping to reschedule parts or all of it in the near future.
We’re not sure what it will look like, but it will still honor the women of Sheridan County and all of their accomplishments.
Thank you to all of the sponsors, the registrants, the speakers and the committee that put so much into this event. We will still make it amazing just not as planned.
Firefighters and crews from Montana-Dakota Utilities and other providers have been out all night, working to restore power and keep Sheridan residents safe. You could hear crews going from one down line or tree to another on emergency scanners. They even joked about it. Kudos to them for going out in the storm so many of us stayed inside to avoid.
The blustery snow disrupted more events than we can count — school activities, conferences, etc.
The Sheridan Senior Center, too, had to close. The first time in the last 13 years staff said.
While I cannot pretend I’m happy about the snow causing so much chaos, there is a certain amount of quiet the snow brings.
It dampens everything down — tree branches, bushes and the like. It also slows everything down and muffles the noise.
The cars move more cautiously (we hope), the animals stay tucked warm in their homes and even people hunker down.
While the weather is frightful, and I know many are still without power, I hope everyone has a safe snow day. I’m sure it will not be the last one we see this fall.
Stay tuned… FAB will still have the last word.
