SHERIDAN — Big Horn Lady Rams volleyball won one and lost two matches at the Casper Invite Friday.
The team played Kelly Walsh in first pool play and fell 14-25, 25-21, 9-15. Their second round brought a win against Rock Springs 25-16, 22-25, 15-9. The Lady Rams then lost to Cheyenne Central 10-25, 18-25.
“Overall we made a lot of improvements today,” coach Leigh McLaughlin said. “We set our goals for the tournament and for each match, and for the most part we were able to achieve those goals. The score board didn’t show it, but we’re working on a few things as a team, and now we just need to build that out for future play.”
Big Horn will face Sheridan at 8 a.m. today in the silver bracket.
Riverton 2 Sheridan 1 (19-25, 25-23, 15-9)
Rawlins 2 Sheridan 0 (25-24, 25-24)
Laramie 2 Sheridan 1 (25-13, 19-25, 15-6)
Lady Eagles lose in 4 sets
SHERIDAN — The Tongue River Lady Eagles played well together but ultimately lost in four sets to Wright in Friday’s 2A Northeast Conference game, coach Michelle Nielsen said.
“It was a good match, and they played very well together,” Nielsen said. “Our errors came in serving in our second game, and that was it. They did a nice job serving this week. It was hard fought. And defensively the girls were really, really moving.”
The final score was 27-25, 11-25, 22-25, 23-25.
Erin Aksamit had six kills, Cortni Sharp contributed 12 kills, Tara Stimpson added four set blocks and Riley Logan had 14 digs.
“We lost our momentum swing in that second game. We missed three services in a row from different rotations and just couldn’t dig out,” Nielsen said.
The team will be working on its hitting this week, Nielsen said, since they had a lot of attempts, a lot of swings at the ball, but their kill percentage was low.
The loss moves the Lady Eagles into 1-2 in conference play and 6-13 overall.
TRHS volleyball will play Lovell today at noon, 1 and 2 p.m. in Lovell.
