SHERIDAN — Sheridan is the host community for the 2013 annual meeting of the Wyoming Association of Churches.
The gathering Sept. 27-28 will focus on faith for an action response to poverty. “As people of faith, we have an obligation to speak out about injustice and to serve others less fortunate than we are,” said Chesie Lee, the executive director of the Wyoming Association of Churches.
The event will be held Sept. 27 at the First Christian Church, the vening of Sept. 27 at the First United Methodist Church and Sept. 28 at the First Presbyterian Church.
A business meeting the morning of Sept. 27 will consider resolutions and whether the Wyoming Association of Churches should remain ecumenical or become interfaith.
On Sept. 27, Mike Hogan with the International Justice Mission based in Oregon will lead a workshop on mobilizing churches to do justice.
Wyoming Department of Health Director Tom Forslund will be the keynote speaker the evening of Sept. 27. Forslund will speak about Medicaid expansion. His presentation will be open to the public at no cost.
During the Sept. 28 workshops, participants can learn more about understanding poverty and what churches can do. A panel, moderated by chair of the Wyoming Association of Churches Rev. Doug Goodwin of Sheridan, will include people who are actively involved in helping the poor in Wyoming’s communities.
The gathering includes book signings by three Wyoming authors, all of whom are active members of the Wyoming Association of Churches.
There will be a silent auction the evening of Sept. 27 to raise funds for the justice work of the Wyoming Association of Churches.
