Sheridan gets four-set win over Cheyenne South in home opener
SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School volleyball team used a four-game win over Cheyenne South to open their weekend conference homestand Friday night.
The Lady Broncs (1-1 4A East) defeated Cheyenne South (19-25, 27-25, 25-21 and 25-21) in their first home game of 2013.
Head coach Wendi Ruby said that serving errors and passing errors cost them the first game.
“When we got to the second game we fixed the things we could and it showed,” she said. “The girls showed that they can come back from being down and they really competed tonight, I’m really proud of them.”
“We really did a great job defensively, it’s something we’ve been working on all week picking up balls and moving our feet. Those girls really stepped up, and then in the front row those girls did a good job, Robbi Ryan put a few balls away and that was big. Madi Farr was at the net blocking and hitting so overall it was great team effort.”
They’ll play Laramie at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at SHS. “They’re pretty athletic, a lot like us, they haven’t won a lot of games but they’re turning things around so we know it’s going to be a competitive game.”
Tongue River 4-4 at Big Horn Invite
BIG HORN— The Lady Eagles went 4-4 Friday at the Big Horn Invite.
They fell to Wright, 0-2, split with Greybull and Kaycee and then Beat Burlington 2-0.
“We played Wright right off the bat a little hesitant,” head coach Michelle Nielsen said. “I think that throughout those four matches we definitely found our sync a little better, by the end were feeling pretty good.
“We’re still missing some kids to rodeo,” she added. “These kids are still trying to figure out who they’re playing next to. I feel pretty good with what they’ve done considering the changes.
“Day by day it’s getting so much better for a new team that has never played together.”
Bracket play Saturday for varsity teams should start around noon in Big Horn.
Stats: Kills Amanda Buller 13, Courtney Sharp 11. Assists: Allison Reed 22. Digs: Riley Logan 16, and Kaylee Smoot served 24-26 with five aces.
Notes: Big Horn was still finishing games late Friday and scores were unavailable. See Monday’s Press for full tournament results.
The Sheridan College volleyball team, in Sterling, Colo., defeated Otero Junior College in its first game Friday 3-1. Further results were not available by press time. They play at home Saturday against Western Wyoming Community College at 5 p.m.
