Mavrakis leads after day one in Gillette, Broncs second

SHERIDAN — Sheridan’s Jack Mavrakis led the two-day tournament in Gillette entering the final round today.

Mavrakis shot a 75 on Thursday and held a one-stroke lead over the Camels Danny Davis. Davis won the season’s first tournament in Cody and finished second last week in Worland.

The Broncs 350 was behind Gillette’s 334 after the first day. Kelly Walsh and Natrona were third and fourth with 370 and 386 respectively.

“The course conditions were ideal and Jack is in a position that if he has a good day tomorrow maybe he can win with a couple good breaks,” head coach Larry Martoglio said.

Bronc Bailey Bonnet shot an 87, good enough for fifth after one day.

Sheridan’s two girls Victoria Owings and Kayla Allen led the small field of female players in Gillete. The Lady Camels had two players as well.

Owings shot a 94 and Allen a 104 Thursday.

Tournament action picked up again this morning.
