SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Coroner’s office has released the name of the man killed on Decker Road Sunday morning as Robert Smart, 77, of Sheridan.
According to a press release provided by the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Smart was riding a bicycle near mile marker four on Wyoming Highway 338, and for an unknown reason, moved out of the emergency lane and into the northbound lane of traffic.
A couple from Billings, Mont., slowed down and moved into the southbound lane to avoid hitting the cyclist, but the cyclist also moved into the same lane and was struck by the vehicle.
The bicyclist did not have any identifying information on him at the time of his death at the scene of the incident and was unidentified until Monday.
The coroner confirmed the cause of Smart’s death was multiple internal injuries resulting from being struck by the vehicle.
The incident has been ruled a suicide.
