Life! It sure seems messy, doesn’t it? There are so many choices with so many reasons to influence every choice. One day you can make a decision concerning an issue and the next day make a different decision concerning the same issue.
Why? Could it be that you have too many sources of authority in your life?
Jesus gave us an illustration in Matthew 7:24-27 that should help us all out of life’s messiness. He said that if one were to build his life on Him it would be like building a house on bed rock and if one didn’t build his life on Him it would be like building a house on sand.
The bed rock foundation would cause the house to withstand storms much the same as Jesus can make you withstand the storms of life.
The foundation of sand will allow a house to be demolished in a storm much like a person who has built his life on his past experiences and false beliefs.
When a person has to review their past in order to make a decision, and then filter that past through their current emotions, it is not difficult to see how so many conclusions can be made and life can become so messy. Because we reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7-8) the messiness is compounded.
If you’re tired of the messiness of your life, get off the sand (experiences) of your life and build your life on Jesus Christ (The Rock). Leave behind the past and press on to the high calling of Christ (Philippians 3:12-14).
You can do this by first, trusting Jesus to make you right with your creator — the God of the Bible. Second, agree with God that you have turned control of your life over to your past (each memory) and thereby made your past into your false god.
Trust God to forgive you and allow Him to set you free from the control of your past (1John :9).
Trust Jesus to do something good with your past (Romans 8:28-29). You have probably already proven that you can’t. Now, since there is only one true foundation (Jesus), be careful how you build on it (1Corinthians 3:10-23).
Learn from God, through His Word, how to build a life of eternal significance without so much messiness (John 10:10)
If you are looking for a simpler life, then give up being guided by the shifting sands of your past and step on to The Rock (Jesus). Instead of going to the multitudes of the past for help in making a decision, just go to Jesus and life will be simpler!
